Your First Session
Hypnosis Session
Free Consultation
Free Evaluation
Free Suggestibility Testing
Before or during the very first hypnosis session, if you do not know what to expect, you may feel a little bit apprehensive. So let me put you at ease – right now. The first session with a hypnotherapist is very similar to the first session with any other therapist.
First, you will be asked to fill out a form. Then you will talk to the therapist about the problem or condition you would like to resolve by using hypnosis. During this time, the therapist will explain to you what hypnosis is, how it works, and how it can be used or applied to your problem/condition. At this point, depending on your condition, the therapist may or may not offer you an outline of a proposed hypnotic intervention. The therapist will likely provide you with any available information pamphlets, research studies or any related material. Next, the therapist will also answer any questions you may have about hypnosis. Lastly, the hypnotherapist will employ various suggestibility tests to demonstrate to you how hypnosis works and what you may expect to feel when you are hypnotized.
Personally, I consider this part of the session a free consultation, and I offer it to every new client. I believe that hypnotherapy, although very effective, completely natural and without any side effects, is not suitable for everybody. I respect that the client has a right to select a different form of treatment and needs to be advised of his/her rights. Only after the client chooses to continue the session and is sure he or she is ready to begin, will the therapy that addresses the client’s issues begin.
Overall, the first session is about 90 minutes long, but may last up to 120 minutes. The subsequent sessions are shorter, usually lasting 60 minutes. Many hypnotherapists, including myself, however, continue every individual session as long as necessary. My personal conviction and professional experience indicates that a session cannot be terminated until the client feels that he/she is “finished” with the session. In hypnotherapy, each and every session is highly individualized and personalized to meet the client’s needs.
